Tree Surveys for Planning
BS5837:2012 is a British Standard for tree surveys on development sites. By assessing the number, species, size, condition, and potential impact to trees, we can inform design decisions on the location of buildings, roads, and other structures. We can also provide an Arboricultural Method Statement to include a tree protection plan to prevent damage during construction.
Tree Health Surveys
As a LANTRA certified Professional Tree Inspector (PTI) we offer surveys for Health, Hazard and Risk assessment. Providing a comprehensive report of detailed recommendations to prevent accidental damage, ensure public safety and reduce the risk of harm. Our reports are used to show duty of care and ongoing due diligence to tree maintenance on both domestic and commercial premises.
TPO Tree Preservation Orders
If you have trees subject to a Tree Preservation Order (TPO), it’s important to understand how to manage them correctly. TPOs are legal orders that protect trees and require permission for any work to be carried out. Our team of experts can guide you through the process of managing trees under a TPO. We can help you prepare applications for work, objections and assist with appeals against local authority decisions.
Developments
Tree surveys meeting the requirements of the BS5837 standard, are a prerequisite of the planning process for development projects. Survey results can inform decisions on the location of buildings, roads, and other structures to avoid damaging trees and to preserve valuable green space. Additionally, tree surveys can identify any protected or significant trees that may require special permission or mitigation measures before development can proceed. We work alongside developers, home builders, architects and planning consultants to ensure a successful outcome.

Homeowners
Trees are an essential part of any home’s landscape. As a homeowner or a home buyer, it’s important to have a tree survey conducted on your property to identify any potential hazards or risks. This is especially important if you have older or larger trees on your property that may be at risk of falling or causing damage during extreme weather conditions.
Homeowners planning a home improvement project may require a BS5837 tree survey to assess the impact of proposed developments on their own or neighbouring trees. Similar to the process above for Developers.
Landowners
Tree risk management is an important consideration for commercial, private and public landowners. Particularly those who manage large or multi site businesses with significant tree populations, such as Local Authorities, Care homes, Schools and Academies, Parish Councils and Sports Clubs to name a few.
Tree surveys provide valuable information about the health and condition of trees, which can inform decisions about their management and maintenance, as well as identify potential hazards, such as dead or diseased trees, which could pose a risk to public safety or property. Additionally, tree surveys can help commercial landowners comply with legal requirements, such as Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs) and planning regulations, which protect trees and their habitats.
By conducting regular tree surveys commercial landowners can ensure the health and longevity of their trees while promoting responsible land management practices.

Many thanks for your advice today regarding the Lombardy Poplar. You were very helpful in answering my many questions as to how I should proceed and what action may be necessary.
